Over the village of Ano Asites, in a green area, is located the monastery of St. George Gorgolaini or Gorgoleimona as it is known today. Refrain from Heraklion 24 km and works from the years of Venetian rule.
Outside of the Gorgolaini Monastery, the visitor encounters the effigy of St. George.
In the yard of the monastery of St. George Gorgolaini can be seen the bust and the brave chieftain's Tomb of the comrade of Captain Korakas, Francisco Mastrachas who at the age of 75 years, died in 1868 in τηε battle against the Turks in Asites.
Impression causes the monastery of St. George Residents Venetian fountain, in which there was a wonderful marble lion until 1990, when it was stolen.
