The monastery of Paliani is one of the oldest if not the oldest monastery in Crete. The first centre of the monastic church built here belongs to the type of early Christian three-aisled, wooden roof, Royal, probably a type that dominated in the early Christian years (5th-6th century) in Crete.
A small church dedicated to Saint John is located inside the monastery of Paliani onto tall rock and a short distance SOUTHWEST of the Catholic. He belongs to the type of one-Aisled street arched , the most prevalent this season.
The monastery operates over 10 years Museum with the remaining widely in the monastery, which is quite remarkable. Exposed images, Holy relics and various books of great historical and archaeological value.
Panagia Oktorissa, another type of one-Aisled Church of "dromikos kamaroskepastos", located a short distance west of the monastery of Palianis and belongs to the jurisdiction of the monastery.
