Over the centuries, many may have changed. But not unprecedented feelings of creating sculptures, and the "parent" relationship that develops between the sculptor and his work. All these pleasures of nature and of the artist, one can hear the melody in his ears like somewhere very near us, in Venerato, where once a year from 2006 onwards, conducted the international sculpture Symposium.
The idea for this international encounter of sculptures was born in a tavern.
Drinking and eating two "koyzoyloi" sculptors who "hit the whole day the stones", Chris Tsoublekas and Manolis Charkoytsis, were those hours inspiration. No matter who said it first, as that shone in their faces! Fortunately, found many others "koyzoyloi" then to support them. And supported! In September 2006, was held with the participation of nine artists from five countries, the first international sculpture Symposium, in a specially designed room with superb view over the stunning natural beauty of the Gorge by the river of Venerato, Apollo and stone wine presses near significant archaeological value.
The space is just a few metres away from the Holy Monastery of Panagia Paliani, one of the oldest in Crete, and opposite in Venerato with excellent buildings of the Venetian period.
The results of the seven-year journey of this path involves creating 52 artworks from 16 countries of particular world and from: Switzerland, Turkey, Germany, Italy, Greece, England, France, USA, Caribbean, Bulgaria, Romania, Hungary, Ukraine, Egypt, Spain and Cyprus. Today, the sculpture Symposium takes place at the entrance of the village and there, sculptors from around the world, meet in their natural habitat rather than within their labs.
Under the sunlight and the summer heat, tormented, catch the dust, to breathe life into one piece boulders. To give form and meaning to the raw, in accordance with the perceptions, attitudes and style of each. To be exhibited publicly in public, their looks with amazement, chisel stone, marble, limestone, Cretan adimonwntas him for the score, but not forgetting the path. The first symposium of sculptures have been placed in the villages Venerato, Avgeniki, Cherries and Siva of the former municipality of Paliani. And the sculptures of the second symposium, remain in the standard EU Heraklion Winery because she financed the 2007 Symposium, held at the winery when he was still a construction site.
