For the first time his name appears in the manuscript relating to churches and Monasteries (Ecclesiarum et Monasteriorum Catasticum Comunis) of 1320 and thereafter refers to all subsequent censuses until today. In an Ottoman document in 1684 we find the name of the village as Magaralar.
Characteristic of the village is the Ottoman Mosque is one of the few that kept the countryside of Crete, while in the cafes and in the Nice dining space that exists are dishes from pure products with rich flavors.
The village is on July 4, the feast of St. Andrew, while patron is the namesake Saint Vlassis celebrating on February 11.
