The first reference to the village is located in a notarial document of 1301, while is identical with the name Plithia (Plithea) located in the manuscript relating to the churches and monasteries of 1320. Since then the encounter in all subsequent censuses performed in Crete.
The Voutes, and their site has been Theater major battles and conflicts in all revolutions and movements of the 19th century. The village was born the rebel and politician George Linardakis – Cretan lad from Malevizi, Adviser to the National Assembly in 1866 and Commander of Sfakia in 1881.
The village had rich architecture with buildings and houses but destroyed by the terrible earthquake of 1856 that fatally hit the Heraklion and many more villages in the region.
Interesting is the visit to the horse farm that is on the path to the church of St. George where the visitor can come and enjoy the nature, but also to use if properly prepared the wood oven, Outdoor Grills and which – cool tap water in fine landscaped courtyard of the Church.
The cultural association of the village significantly by organising festivals operates on the eve of August and the feast of Saint George (April 23) with plenty of local wine, rich food and live folk music.
